Re-routing of the course and changing the start finish area plus grooming the trails again was a lot to handle with limited volunteers (Friday is a difficult day for volunteers as most cannot afford to take off work). Todd Forrest - Race Director was at the helm for yet another year along with all of the dedicated Delaware Trail Spinners' crew and did a wonderful job taking care of business so that the show would go on without a hitch. Perhaps this excerpt from a race interview will tell the story: Where you happy with the way the race was run? "Yes, the course was fantastic and the promoters did a great job. Delaware Trailspinners does a lot of good things for the sport, and it is always good to support a fantastic club. Thanks for a great race!" Rain was forecast
yet again, however it held off until the very end of the race with
few racers getting caught in the brief shower. The trails were
in remarkable shape thanks to the spinners excellent trail maintenance.
The heat and humidity were quite intense the day of the race but
the racers persevered as usual, enjoying some of the sweetest singletrack
on the east coast. Beginner Race
Undefeated Series Champion 1st Place Beginner Women 35+ Barbara Schultz - Action Wheels had another great ride along with some tough competition in her own class. She maintained her perfect record while holding off second place Kate Primm. Her lead at the end of the race was one minute eighteen seconds. Barbara finished the race in 1:59:24 with Kate coming in second with a time of 2:00:42. Third place was Karen Garbarino - 2:20:51. |

which
is necessary due to the limited availability of the land. Unfortunately
after approximately 600 hours of preparation for the race scheduled
for July 18, 2004, at the last minute the race had to be cancelled
due to very heavy rain. Consequently, the rain date of August
22, had to be set back one day out of courtesy so that it did
not overlap a nearby mtb race. That meant that a horse event
and a mtn bike race would be taking place the same day - Saturday,
August 21st.
1st
Place Beginner Women Overall and 34 &under was Andrea Walheim
- Jersey Action Riders. She was stung by a bee and put the hammer
down a bit early at the end of the race but persevered over the
competition ending up with a five minute gap at the end. Jessica
Singerman - FSVS was second at 2:01:45 and the ever consistent
Series Champion Shannon McCulloch - Yellow Breeches Racing third
at 2:08:59.
