Sport Race

1st Place Sport Master 2 - Chris Hinman - No Cents Racing Bike Line’s Amy Breyla, a long time moutainbiker, has been very focused this year as she has trained with great discipline. She took the home field advantage today and won the race with just over a 10 minute margin of victory. Taking second was the very strong and experienced Chelsie Rose of Shirk’s racing. Rounding out the women’s Sport class 34&under was Action Wheels young phenom Kat Morgan on board her Santa Cruz Juliana.

Team Bike Line Corporate socked it to the competition with a solid one two punch in the Women’s 35+ race. Claire Hayes walked away with a hard fought win over her teammate Tracey Whyte. Tracey, who was ri ding for the series win was within 5 minutes of the leader, and knew she needed a strong ride to pull off the series victory, which she did in style. Finishing up the top three was Wooden Wheels veteran Lyn Shaffer. After suffering a number of injuries in 2003, Lyn has been making steady strides toward returning to her previous level of excellence. She will be one to watch in 2005 for sure.

Juniors, the future of our racing, many have enjoyed watching these young men develop into the dominating Joey Thompsons, and Kyle Hammakers of the world. Alex Horwath of Curt’s Cyclery was the victor today in near perfect conditions, besting Yellow Breeches Taylor McClain by just 10 minutes. McClain, the Sport Junior series champion, put together a good ride, knowing that with a solid effort the coveted series championship would be his. Troy Bennett made the podium finishing up just 40 seconds behind series champion Taylor McClain. With these young men in the pipeline, the future of east coast cycling is in good hands.

Finishing his race in just 1:50:56 Green Mtn Cyclery’s Marty Mckeon took 1st Place Sport Senior I crossing the line with his arms thrust in victory. Marty held off a hard chasing Chris Consorto. Chris, who finished up just 50 seconds back is a Fair Hill local, and was racing for the series championship today. Stress could be seen all over Chris’s face before the race. Only joy and relief could be seen following his second place ride today. Green Mountain Cyclery must have had a very proud day as Justin Leidy finished up in third place. Must be some magic on the Green Mountain Team!

Ask anyone who had fought their way through the ranks and they will tell you the Sport Senior II class is year in and year out the toughest, most competitive class in any series (besides singlespeed of course). Cycle Fit’s Peter Bruinsman made his way through the jungle of testosterone and anger to take the win on this day. His winning time of 1:50:40 was just enough to hold off and equally impressive Josh West of Bikeman. These two had battled through out the race and Bruinsman was just able to hold off West for the win. Rounding out the Podium in 3rd place was Action Wheel’s John Bernardi. Tough men, the Senior II racers are, tough men.

The Fair Hill course offers racers a longer course, wrapping itself around some of the regions best singletrack. Ed Yost , 1st Place Sport Vet I made the most of his ride today, beating series tough guy Ben Anmone by just under 2 minutes. Although diminutive in size, Ben rides big time, an experienced racer, and accomplished climber Ben says it all in his interview “I love to bike.” Taking third in this very competitive class was Philip West of Cycle Fit. Great efforts by all today.

Colin Batchlor put in an outstanding effort at Fair Hill in the Sport Vet II race holding off second place finisher, and series veteran Bill Ambruster of Guy’s Racing by just 15 seconds. Hard fought racing such as this has been the norm all season long. Larry Distefano finished strongly taking the final step onto the podium with a 2:00:24 time. Outstanding efforts by all in this class.
