Beginner Race

The 1st Place Beginner Women 34&under Cory Tryon and 1st Place Beginner Women 35+ Barbara Schultz discovered a new way to find fun riding "buddies".......... race at Granogue and stay within sight of each other the whole race while trading places at the front and inspire each other with kind words. These two ended up together at the last log crossing coming out of Deputy's Woods (last section of singletrack) with Cory within 20 feet of Barbara. Cory took chase through the last field and climbed up towards the finish line just 20 seconds ahead of Barbara. It was a win, win situation all around. Shannon McCulloch - Yellow Breeches Racing took second place Beg Women 34&under 3:25 back from the overall winner Cory Tryon. Julie Williams - Guys Racing placed a respectable third place less than five minutes back. Kelly Claydon won second place Beg women 35+.

Zac Felpel - Shirks won the Beg Junior Men 12-18 race taking first out of 21 riders. 2nd Place Robby McElfresh - Yellow Breeches Racing came in 1:11 back Tracey Whyte - Bike Line which is quite impressive when you take into consideration that he competed in the very demanding Michaux Maximus the week before Granogue! Greg Mionske - Revolution placed third right behind Robby 1:24 back.

Eric Mushrush won the Beg Senior I race by a margin of three minutes. Ian Vickery was second and Aaron Pinkston third.

The fastest Beginner Overall was the winner of the Senior 2 race - Brian Murphy. After starting off slow, Brian warmed up and was seen descending like a man possessed......... he also went down hard in the tunnel but.......... no problem........ he clocked in at 54 minutes! Eric Mushrush, winner of the Senior 1 race was just eight seconds slower. In the Senior 2 race Jeremy Spohr grabbed the number two spot 1:37 back, and Neil Christie - Y's Guys finished third just a few seconds later at 1:44 back.

The first place position for Beg Vet 1 was hotly contested by Robert Sawickey - Action Wheels and Scott Armstrong - Y's Guys. Mr. Sawickey inched out Mr. Armstrong climbing up through the field towards the finish by a mere 7 seconds. What a race.......... Donnie Harries - Bike Line took third 2:46 back. Brad Bugher - Y's Guys ran an incredibly fast race for his age group winning the Beg Vet 2 race in 54:37. All this just one week after taking 2nd Place at the Michaux Maximus! We can only assume that cardio training at the YMCA 3-4 days a week for the last few months is a very good thing (see his interview). John Gould came in second and Tim Schultz placed third.

The top five Beg Master 1 racers were all less than a minute from each other at the finish with the 5th place Cullen Wambaugh - Cycle Works just 1:43 back from first place Bill Ringler - Fabulous Furry Freek. Bill finished just 38 seconds ahead of second place Ed Camelli with a time of 1:01:06. Dan Lacombe was third place, and 33 seconds later fourth placed Dwight Cummins - Kimmet Extreme Sport crossed the line. Ed Camelli passed Bill Ringler on the first open field climb off the start and led the race for the first four miles. Bill kept him within his sights and made his move around the four mile mark passing Ed and putting a couple of riders between them. Towards the end it was a mad dash for the finish line with Bill Ringler holding onto first place by 38 seconds.
