Sport Race

Dilcia Davis - Sport Women 34 &underAmy Breyla - Bike Line Corporate was the fastest woman Overall and 1st Place Sport Women 34 &under. Amy is having a good season and is riding strong. She placed 2nd at the Monster of Michaux this year. Josie Shew - First State Velo Sport came in second 1:14 back and Kristin Lamb - Guy's Racing finished third. The Sport Women 35+ race was hotly contested by riders of the top two large teams........ Wooden Wheels and Bike Line Corporate. Tracey Whyte - Bike Line Corporate battled throughout the race with Lyn Shaffer - Wooden Wheels Racing who was out front for most of the race. In the last lap Lyn lost her momentum and Tracey passed her and didn't look back taking first in 1:30:17. Lyn placed second just 27 seconds back. Patty Woodworth - Action Wheels came in third.

Taylor McClain - Yellow Breeches Racing has been training on the road a lot lately. Guess it paid off as he won the Sport Junior race in style. He paced himself and stayed in third place for most of the race waiting to make his move about half way through the last lap, passing Alex Horwath - Curt's Cyclery and another racer. He was first over the finish line in 1:13:28. Alex placed second less than a minute back and Chad McCurdy - Cycle Fit finished a respectable third.

The Sport Senior 1 Race saw racing at it's best with the top three finishing up just seconds from each other. Tim Collins - D&Q wasn't about to be beaten on his home turf taking first place in 1:13:08. The friendly large team rivalry between Wooden Wheels and Bike Line Corporate played out in a very exciting razor sharp finish with 2nd place Christopher Consorto - Bike Line Corporate edging out 3rd place Dan Lichtenberger - Wooden Wheels Racing by less than 4 seconds!

Fastest Sport rider Overall Chris Yanavich - Action Wheels went toe to toe with Peter Bruinsma - Cycle Fit in the Sport Senior 2 race. Chris took first with only a 31 second gap. Series leader Matt Thompson - Wooden Wheels Racing continued his top three racing streak for the Classic Series placing third.

It was pandemonium at the end of the Sport Vet 1 race which was the closest race the day. After pacing himself for most of the race laying in wait Ben Anemone - Bike Line Corporate exploded into a sprint finish in the last 100 yards along with Jazzy Jeff Brenneman - Shirk's and Thayer Seese - Bike Line Corporate. When the dust settled it was Ben Anemone in 1:13:20.598, Jazzy Jeff - 1:13:20.817 and Thayer - 1:13:52.484. All three were within 31 seconds and Ben and Jeff .219th of a second apart!

Another close race was to be had in the Sport Vet 2 race. Don Pagano - Yellow Breeches Racing held on to his lead under the constant pressure of Kevin Dillard - NCVC bearing down on him for most of the race. Don faded big time towards the end of the second lap and had to work very hard to maintain his position. The pressure wasn't all from Kevin as Larry Distefano - Action Wheels and Mark Bosely - Little Vinnies Tattoo were all in the lead group. Don held on for the win with Kevin second just 16 seconds back, Larry Distefano third 32 seconds back and 4th place Mark Bosely 55 seconds back.

Apparently this course lends itself to close finishes and not to be left out were the Master 1 and Master 2 racers. In both of these races the top three finishers were all within a minute of each other. Bill Nagel - Guy's Racing was 1st place in the Master 1 race with James Everton - Action Wheels (17 seconds back) second and Scott Reynolds - Tailwind (25 seconds back) placing third. Bob Perna - Bean's Bikes was 1st place Sport Master 2 with Jac Frech - Tailwind second at 36 seconds back and third place Robert Hutton - Valley Mtn Bikers 39 seconds back.
