What Tim Horton's Coffee Can Do!!
FAIRMOUNT CLASSIC XC - Trek/VW AMBC Series Race
Philadelphia, PA  May 7, 2000
by Chrissy Redden

I heard the Canadians had been rocking it up on the AMBC scene lately, so I
figured I better fly the flag and show 'em what Tim Horton's coffee can do!!

The AMBC US series went to Philadelphia on the weekend, as did myself,
Chrissy Redden and my very cool, but busy teammate, Andy Bishop.  The course
was in an ideal location to be a big spectator event, nestled in a park just
outside of downtown Philly.  The course was  winding, rolly and hard-packed
with some sections of fun single track mixed in with the double track.  The
women did a very short 4 laps with the men doing 5 laps.  This was probably
wise to do a race on the shorter side since the temperatures were soaring in
the low 30's C (that's low nineties for those non-bilingual types!)  Very
unseasonable for us east coasters in the beginning of May!!  Just 3 weeks
ago Andy was telling me he did a cross-country ski race with our other
teammate, Pavel!!

The Results:

Women

1st         Chrissy Redden          Gary Fisher/SAAB
2nd         Sue Haywood                 Trek/VW

Men

1st         Kirk Molday                  Trek/VW
4th         Andy Bishop                  Gary Fisher/SAAB

The Race:

The field of women was good and I saw some good competition from Sue
Haywood, Trek/VW.  At the "gun" we attacked up the first climb and sprinted
for the single track, with myself taking the lead, but Sue staying within
sight for the first lap.  I concentrated on having a good race, and drinking
lots to stay strong and finish first.

The Goods:

Sugar full suspension bike
Outfitted with Shimano XTR
Endurox Energy Drink
Oakley Rx VR2800 Sweep lens on blue folding M-Frame
Full Castelli clothing
Northwave Mtn Shoes
Saab 95 wagon to get from the airport to the race in STYLE!
Hutchinson Python tires, front and rear

Tim Horton's Coffee

Special thanks to Louis Longi and the Gary Fisher local crew for helping out
Andy and I on the weekend!!
