Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
Yes, I started taking my grandson along on my training loop. He rides his minibike and pushes me harder, MUCH harder.
Did you find the rock gardens challenging?
Yes, the rocks were the best part of the race. Jekylls LOVE to hammer rocks. I especially liked the long uphill slab near the end of the loop.
Were the other riders courteous when passed or passing?
Yes, without fail.
What was your favorite part of the course?
The single track right after the start chute was cool and all the rocks.
Were you strong from start to finish?
Yes, since we only did one loop, I knew I could go all out. I had to walk the uphill with the log at the top because of all the riders clogging the course, and was annoyed at first but it did give me a little break.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
I loved it at the finish when all the people were clapping for us. It makes you feel like a million bucks.
When did you put the hammer down?
Immediately. Stan Kioziatik in Master Two took off like a bat out of hell so I had no choice.
Did you have any unusual problems?
There was a mud hole right at the end of the course with a nice line to the right or left, I took the middle and ended up - up to the axles.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Yes, very much. Joe Tierney has a very clear picture of how to run a race. I thought the prize raffle was a great idea. Two minute intervals between classes should be mandatory.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Don Morrison is a fine American.
