David W. Clark

Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

It just fell into place with preparing for a 15k trail run on the 14th of April. This has only been around the 3rd time I was on this bike this year, mostly running and the road bike. Thank goodness it wasn't a technical race which is right down my alley!

Did you achieve your goals for this race?

Yes. I was just thinking that if I could just hold a top ten finish that would be cool!

Were you strong from start to finish?

The first two laps then on the third one I felt the power leaving.

Don Morrison and Wissahickon Cyclery did a great job putting together this race and we thank them for their efforts. Was there anything that you observed that could be done better as the series progresses?

No, it was run really well! Just some things on the numbers. They needed to be different for each class so people watching knew who was who, plus some of the people racing didn't know for sure who was in their class, that is the only thing that I heard. There wasn't a real good way to know for sure how many was going to run in the race. A rainy day and still get over 450 riders! You guys did really well!

When did you put the hammer down?

When we hit the thick mud, a lot of racers were stalling out trying to ride it. I just picked up the bike and ran like the wind! That got me up in the top 15 then.

If you ran into these exact trail conditions again, would you do anything differently?

Think that I'd try some different tires with less knobs in them so as not to pick up as much mud!

Did you have any unusual problems?

No, other than the chain dropping off on the flat, I don't know why that happened but I just stopped and put it back on and it never did it again. It was funny cause I didn't hit nothing or do anything it just came off! Other than that it pretty much went smooth.

How would you rate the course?

The course was pretty good, I'm am glad that they left us run it, mostly on the roads and main trails with the conditions! That way we didn't tear up a lot of other trails and give mountain biking a bad name! Mountain bikers are taking some slack right now about the bikes on trails. You did good on the course!

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

I thought that it was run really well with it being the first one of the series and having as many riders as there were!

If you could do the race again - would you do anything differently?

Yes, I wouldn't let Slowboy know that was coming up behind him!:)

Is there anything you would like to add?

Thanks to Bushey's for being our sponsor again this year along with the Phillips group, www.gretnabikes.com, Sutliff Autoplex and VOmax!A big thanks to Don Morrison and Wissahickon Cyclery for putting such a great race together! I know how much time goes into things like this! Also big thanks to the Hibernia County park for letting us race their trails! Thank you Bill for keeping up on the standings of this series! Looking good for the year, it has brought a renewed hype into the mountain bike racing! Keep up the good work guys and all the teams in the series!
