SUPER SPONSOR

Interview with #1 Pro Women Katie Compton
Trek / VW East Coast Factory Team

Date: August 13, 2000
Event: Iron Hill XC FSVS
Class: Women
Category: Pro / Expert Senior
Length: 26 miles
Time: 2:04:08
Bike: Trek 8500
Tires: Bontrager

Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

No

Were you strong from start to finish?

Yes! 'cause I rode with Todd and he pushed me and made me ride fast.

Were you on a single-speed?

No, Todd was on a triple-speed and I had my TREK 8900.

When did you put the hammer down?

From the get go. The first two laps were really fast, the third and fourth were a little slower but still fast. I was tired. Todd kept pushing. When ever Todd pulled in I would say, "go fast" and then I'd spin a little bit and he'd say "go faster" and I did and so it worked out.

Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

None.

No bee stings or anything?

Oh.... two bee stings. On my thigh and my belly.

How would you rate the course?

Super fun. Fast.

Did you make it up the big hill every time?

Every time. Made it up all of the climbs every lap. After doing Muncles (field climb by the stone water tower at Granogue) ... it was like half as long as Muncles and not as steep.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Yes. It was run very well.

If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

No. Nothing differently.

Is there anything you would like to add?

That Todd rode super fast and pushed me. It was lots of fun.

Thank you Katie Compton for the interview!!
