  • How was your fitness level going into this race?

You never really know for the first race of the year, but I was lucky to be in South Carolina for the winter, so I was able to train consistently.

  • Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack?

Yes, I was 2nd, and went through into 1st soon after that.

  • Were you strong from start to finish?

I think I rode ok, but not super throughout the race.

  • When did you put the hammer down?

I felt good on the first lap, but was unable to match Jeremiah when he increased the pace at the end of lap 2.

  • Did you have any unusual problems?

My toes were a bit cold, but that is common for me, and is no excuse.

  • Were you happy with the way the race was run?

    Yes. Very smooth.

  • Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?

Our team director, Ernie Martin was running around on the course, taking pictures and making sure we looked spiffy in our new Trek kit.

  • Anything you would like to add?

Good to see everyone again and get the 03 season going. It is going to be a great year for mtbiking in the mid-Atlantic!
