How was your fitness level going into this race? I think my body is starting to tire out from the strenuous season and the 24 Hr Solo World Championships. I feel quite fit and efficient on the bike, but a tad lacking the top end speed. Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack? Yes, I was leading. Superseries starts are always fast with guys like Brandon O and Jason M. who like to blast off the line, so I was fortunate to grab the lead. Were you strong from start to finish? I rode a steady pace, but 5% less strong than if I were at my best. When did you put the hammer down? I never really picked the hammer up. Did you have any unusual problems? I had a nasty faceplant on the first lap on the new singletrack downhill. Some boulders on the left side drew me in and I ended up over the bars and bodyslamming. I have a nice bump on my knee and a wicked abrasion from my belly button to my nipple! Were you happy with the way the race was run? Yes, Spring Mountain is a great venue. The music and announcements were a nice touch. Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)? Bill D. made me laugh on the switchback climb as he scampered around for better photo opps. Anything you would like to add? Next year, route the course down the slalom course for added fun factor and big air opportunities!
