Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
I tried to drink more water than usual all week. My diet was more fruits and bread due to the heat.
Did you make it up all of the hills?
No, I didn't make the first climb as it was clogged with traffic, same for the second. I did make them on the second lap. I made Muncle's Revenge both laps. Thanks to all those people cheering it was LOUD. You had to make it.
What was your favorite part of the course?
The single track leading to the tunnel was fast. The first single track with the little bridges was fun too.
Were you strong from start to finish?
Yes. I think this was the hardest race yet.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
Joey Thompson's Mom related a story to me about his Dad's eating habits. He apparently hounded his Dad how "You can't beat Karl. If you eat Doritos and drink beer". I said that's fine I eat Doritos and drink beer too. At our age it's a reward. Truth be known. Ice cream is my downfall.
When did you put the hammer down?
The uphill start was hard. But threw it in the big ring at the top and jumped hard. Then settled into TT mode.
Did you have any unusual problems?
Just those usual "Klein shifting problems". I've done everything to correct it. But it has to do with the rear suspension set up.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Yes, It was excellent.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Thanks to the DuPonts for letting us race there, to all the people who made it happen, and all those spectators that cheer us on. Each race seems like a "family reunion". Much more friendly than the road racing I'm used to.
