How was your fitness level going into this race? I doubled up last weekend with a triathlon on Saturday and a mountain bike race on Sunday. With last weekend's activities and the race this week being on Saturday, I may have been a bit tired physically. However, mentally I felt good and that is probably more important. Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack? I was surprised to enter the singletrack first, but it did not last long. Mr. Henry and Ransom said their good-byes early and took off soon after we entered the singletrack. Were you strong from start to finish? I felt great the whole race, but my bike was having a tough day. I like the mud, but the bike doesn't seem to care for it, so we argued the whole race. When did you put the hammer down? For me it was a steady grind. My bike told me that if I pushed it too hard it would give up, so I just stayed steady. Did you have any unusual problems? My rear derailleur sounded like a machine gun for two laps. I tried giving it some Accelerade, but that did not work. Were you happy with the way the race was run? The race was run real well considering the conditions. Thank you for shortening the race. Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)? On one of the shot drops with a bend to the left my bike went straight instead of turning so I ended up doing a superman into the bush. This happened on the last lap too when I was being caught by my teammate Brent. I thought that he would catch me after that. Anything you would like to add? A sincere thank you to the Shirk's Team, Shirk's Shop, Pacific Health Labs (Endurox, Accelerade) and all the other people who have to put up with me. I can't wait to do it again next weekend!
