Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
I arrived early (via Don Morrison) so I had a chance to preride the course a little bit. I would like to thank the local fellow who showed me around.
Did you find the rock gardens challenging?
The rocks were great and yes, challenging. I fair better on these course types though so, to me, the rocks are less challenging then twisty, muddy single track. I can power through rock sections, but not around slippery turns.
Were the other riders courteous when passed or passing?
The kindness of the competitors is one of the reasons that I have been drawn to this sport. Other riders are most often very courteous.
What was your favorite part of the course?
The whole track was awesome!
Were you strong from start to finish?
I was steady from start to finish, but fumbled a couple of times in some technical areas and it cost me.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
Even thought there were only two other Shirk's racers on the course (both women), I almost hit them both. I also had an interesting conversation with one of the Henry guys trying to figure out what class he was. Boy, that guy is fast!
When did you put the hammer down?
I rode pretty steady the whole race. I think that I should have pushed it a little more early on.
Did you have any unusual problems?
My hub was broken and had to ride with the bearings real loose. I was fortunate that the wobbly wheel made it through.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
The race was excellent top to bottom.
Is there anything you would like to add?
I would like to thank SHIRK'S for helping me with the bike, Mrs. Silva for
handing me water bottles, and Don Morrison for the car pool and setting up a
great series. I would also like to say thanks to all the great people that I
have met participating in this series.
