Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

I pre-rode the course several times. My house is located in Michaux State Forest, which gives me an advantage.

Were you strong from start to finish?

I had a strong start but was fading towards the end.

Do you feel like you made up for DNFing at the Michaux Ironmasters 2000 placing 3rd Pro/Expert Senior in this race?

No, Michaux is my home turf and I have to defend my territory.

What part of the course was the most fun for you?

The whole course was a lot of fun. Michaux is a great place to ride, if you don't mind clear-cuts. Thanks to Governor Ridge.

When did you put the hammer down?

I decided to go hard right at the start because I knew the race course suited my riding style.

Did you have any unusual problems?

No

How would you rate the course?

I would give the course a 10. It has a great combination of fire-roads and most importantly technical single track.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

The race was run very well.

If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

If I could do the race again, I would have pushed myself a little harder into the finish.

In the results you are listed as Jake “Butter Buns” Gettier do you know why you were listed as such?

I work and ride for the shop that organizes the race and the promoters enjoy giving me a hard time. Butter Buns is a new nickname. People usually call me the "Jackal" or "Jake the Snake".

Anything you'd like to add?

Yes, Gettysburg Bicycle is planning on organizing and promoting a Michaux race series for next year. The series will consist of a Spring Race (similar to the Ironmaster's), a summer race (The Curse of Dark Hollow), and a fall race (The Terror of Teaberry). Each race will be held in different parts of the Michaux State Forest, in order to maximize the racers riding experience.

Thanks for the interview Jake!
