Johnny Guentner

Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

I drank a pint of Guinness last night that's about it.

Did you achieve your goals for this race?

Yes, considering I really didn't have any. I just wanted to go out and have a good time.

Were you strong from start to finish?

For the most part yes, I had my moments of pain and suffering.

Did you have any problems trying to get to the single-track first?

No not really, I kind of hung back a little at the start hoping that everybody was going to blow up on that evil grass hill. Then about a hundred yards from the single track I attacked. I ended up in about 3rd or 4th going in.

Were the riders courteous while passing in the single-track?

I don't really know because I didn't get passed much but I tried to be as courteous as I could when I was passing. A lot of the passee's where not very nice.

What was your favorite part of the course?

There was this sceeeeeming downhill with some super fast single-track right after that I was quite fond of. The finish was pretty fun too.

When did you put the hammer down?

I was pretty steady the whole race but John Cameron chased me down and I had to open it up a lot to lose him. He was really strong.

Did you have any unusual problems?

My beer was to far from the finish line.

How would you rate the course?

Sweet. The virtual tour didn't do it justice.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

No not separating the fields was a big mistake. You can't have that many people on that short of a course at one time. Turns the race into a passing competition, which just causes problems. Plus get rid of those damn computers for scoring. Try what Dan Comber does at his races tear off tags that get stapled to a board as the people come in. I have never seen a problem at his races.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Yes, I just want to put out a big thanks to mountainbikeRACER.com and all the promoters and sponsors, I know there has been some scoring problems but overall It is great to have such a huge series to compete in. Oh yah Bill you ROCK! Peace
