• How was your fitness level going into this race?
   
  Better than expected considering the weather we had this winter.
   
  
• Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack?
   
  Yes.
   
  
• Were you strong from start to finish?
   
  Only on the first lap, then the problems started (see below).
   
  
• When did you put the hammer down?
   
  Right after the stream crossing, I tried to take advantage of the pavement and gain some time on the leader. It didn't work.
   
  
• Did you have any unusual problems?
   
  Coming through the Start/Finish for Lap 2 a stick ripped out my rear deraileur cable. My race quickly turned into a duathlon.
   
  
• Were you happy with the way the race was run?
   
  I think everything went smoothly for the first race of the year. What happened to the Mega Swag toss?
   
  
• Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
   
  After seeing the final standings, I realized the rider I was trying to catch all race graduated with me in high school and I had not seen in 10 years.
