Team: Team Harrisburg
XC Race Bike: Smorgasbord
Tires: Not sure.
Conditions: Mostly dry. A few muddy spots.
Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
Yes. I ate a lot of my mother-in-law's goat milk ice cream the week before the race. As my brother-in-law (Scott Henry) puts it, "it makes you go fast".
Did you find the rock gardens challenging?
Yes.
Were the other riders courteous when passed or passing?
Yes.
What was your favorite part of the course?
The long climb in the middle of the course--it gave my arms a break.
Were you strong from start to finish?
No. By the third lap (actually the fourth since we did a warm-up lap), I was pretty tired.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
Just Bill Deputy taking my picture at a spot that I couldn't ride.
When did you put the hammer down?
I think the course put the hammer down on me. For the most part I just tried to ride within my limits so that I had some energy to finish the race.
Did you have any unusual problems?
No.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Yes, very. I thought it was very well organized. I have no complaints whatsoever. The race organizers and volunteers did a great job!
Is there anything you would like to add?
I just want to thank my husband (Dave Henry), my brother-in-law (Scott Henry),
Dave Clark and Mike Keller (other Team Harrisburg members) for being patient
and taking the time to do training rides with me. All of you have helped me
tremendously in improving on my mountain biking. I would also like to thank
our sponsors, Phillips Office Products, Sutliff Autoplex, www.gretnabikes.com
and Busheys Cycling and Fitness for their financial support for the team this
year. Lastly, I want to thank Don Morrison and Bill Deputy for putting on the
series this year and for all the hard work and long hours they have put into
making this series a success!
