Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

Not for this race particularly. I was thinking that this race would be the kind of a race to help me get back into shape cause this is the first race of the season. Mostly I've been doing endurance riding and things of that nature.

In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained?

Over 20 hours in February, but not much training at all in January. I was doing the team manager thing a lot. Mostly on the computer or the phone.

Were you strong from start to finish?

Yeah. Those K2 guys were kind of dominating the first couple of laps and I didn't think that they were going all that fast. They were like one, two, and three in the third lap pretty much. I thought they were going to do something like block the trail and let the other guy go - so I attacked on the third lap.
We dropped everybody - it was just me, Jeremiah, and Dave. That's when I kind of sat back in third place after that. Those guys were too far back to catch back up. It was just down to us three by then.

When did you put the hammer down?

We hit the third lap - and just before we went into that little single-track section - I passed everybody and just kind of clicked it up one notch. That was a hard course to drop people on but I kept it going especially on the climbs I kept the pace up.

Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

No, just with the lapped riders. That was a big factor.

How do you rate the course?

I prefer more climbing on a course. It's easier to race on the climbs, but it was a good course for being flat. Fun single-track.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Yeah.

What was your prize for first place?

Cash

If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

Yes. When I started hitting those lapped riders I would be in first place instead of third. It would have made a difference. One time Dave was leading and he got by, then after a couple seconds, Jeremiah - then a couple of more seconds and I got by. There are a few people out there that just don't let you by. Most people are good and give you enough room to get by - but some people even though they are being lapped still want to race you.

Is there anything you would like to add?

No.
