Interview

MBR.com: Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

Dave: Not really, I got to pre-ride the course a week in advance. Since I live fairly close I was able to check it out and be a little more prepared than normal.

MBR.com: In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained?

Dave: Now I'm down to ten to twelve at the most. With fall, running out of daylight and getting a little burnt out toward the end of the year - you have to relax just a little bit more.

MBR.com: Were you strong from start to finish?

Dave: The last ten minutes of the race I was really hurting. Chris Eatough and I had really quite a good race going together there. Unforturnately he flatted with about ten minutes to go in the race. We were taking it to one another quite hard.

MBR.com: Were you neck and neck when he flatted?

Dave: He'd gotten like a 15 second gap on one of the descents. At the bottom of the descent was where he got his flat. It was unfortunate that he got his flat at that time cause I think it would have been a really good finish to the race but fate had it that that happened to him. The week before we were racing together and I had gotten three flats in a row on that course so I didn't get to finish the race and really didn't get to race that much. Things turned around for him the next week and he got bit by the flat Gremlin.

MBR.com: What was your prize for First Place?

Dave: $60

MBR.com: Did you say $60, for winning the Pennsylvania State Championship??

Dave: Yes.

MBR.com: OK....If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

Dave: Probably not. I think I rode the race as hard as I could from start to finish.

MBR.com: Is there anything you would like to add?

Dave: Not really, the race kind of spoke for itself. I was happy to end up winning the Pennsylvania State Championship after winning both of the races in the series. That was a nice little bonus.

MBR.com: When did you put the hammer down?

Dave: Basically the whole race. There wasn't a chance to rest.

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

Dave: No, everything seemed to click, it was pretty smooth.

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual luck?

Dave: Yeah, Chris Eatough's flat. Not too often that he does that. It's a rare occurence.

MBR.com: How do you rate the course?

Dave: I thought it was a really nice course. A lot of climbing which I favor and it had some really tough descents which isn't my strongest suit but it's something I'm fairly decent at. It was definitely to Chris's benefit. It was a challenging course all around.

MBR.com: Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Dave: Yes, but there were a few things about the race that I was dissappointed with.
