MBR.com: Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

Josie: Not really considering I only had about five hours of sleep - but I'm a road racer and I'm just coming off my first road season. I started as a Category 4 (Women) and upgraded to Cat. 3 for the last three races.

MBR.com: In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained on average?

Josie: Six.

MBR.com: Were you strong from start to finish?

Josie: I was a little intimidated at first since this is my first mountain bike race ever. So I took it easy at the beginning but then it was more fun to pick people off as the race went on.

MBR.com: When did you put the hammer down?

Josie: I wouldn't say I put the hammer down. I just kind of pushed hard the whole race after the beginning few minutes.

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual problems?

Josie: Not really. Just the mud but everybody had that, so...

MBR.com: How do you rate the course?

Josie: Not too bad. I can't really compare since this is my first mountain bike race. It had quite a bit of logs and lots of leaves that made it a little tricky. Only had one fall so...

MBR.com: Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Josie: Yeah, I thought it was pretty good.

MBR.com: What was your prize for First Place?

Josie:

MBR.com: If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

Josie: Not that I can think of but I'm always trying to improve.

MBR.com: Is there anything you would like to add?

Josie: Oh yeah, there was a funny thing that happened - I was going around this guy who kind of got in the way and he said, "Sorry little brother" I said, "WHAT?" He replied, "Oh, I mean little sister, I mean big sister, damn - you're kickin' my butt!" and I went around him. It was a lot of fun. I hope to do more.
