Why do you enjoy endurance events?

Most of all, I like how it feels when I'm done. 24hr events are much harder than a regular race and they really seperate the riders' abilities. And just when I think I can't possibly feel any worse or hurt any greater, I do another lap and prove I can.

What is the longest distance or number of hours you have ever ridden in one day?

5 hours

Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

I got plenty of sleep a couple days before the race and made sure I was completely recovered from training. I also didn't drink for a few weeks before the race.

How many laps did you complete yourself?

I did 4 laps. The last lap being the hardest and least amount of fun.

How much actual riding time did you get in during the race?

Only 6 hrs and 8 minutes, but it felt like a lot more.

In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained on average?

I was only doing about 12 to 14 hrs a week. I had to be very careful about my training because of my legs. I didn't want to cramp before the race.

Were you strong from start to finish?

My first lap was the fastest for me but I didn't feel good riding it. I rode the same time for both my night laps, but my second night lap felt the best out of the four. I rode everything except part of the slider run section and that brutal steep climb before the final downhill, but I walked that section every other lap too so I wasn't counting that part.

Did you have a good support crew?

We had an awesome support crue! Roger is a great manager and kept everything straight. Sean took care of our bikes and made sure they worked wonderfully every lap. Mike Eatough washed the bikes after every lap and helped out Sean. Dr. Bill kept our legs fresh by giving great messages. All we had to do was ride fast, and I think that was one of the easy jobs.

Did your Team work well together?

We all work well together and have a great time in the process. All of us are very encouraging to one another and feed off of each others success.

What did you eat during the race?

I tried to eat what I could, but I wasn't ever hungry. I drank an Endurox recovery shake after each lap and made myself eat a little bit of food.

Did you change clothes, shower, or nap during the race?

Yes, I basically rode, showered, drank a shake, got a message, and laid down till my next lap throughout the race.

Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

No, everything went great. We didn't have any flats and my bike always ran great. The suspension was awesome, it felt so good through all those roots and the downhills.

How would you rate the course?

I loved it! It was a lot of fun and very challenging.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Llaird alway does a great job of running the race. And the trail crew worked really hard to get the course ready and ridable.

If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

I think I would try to add some longer rides to my training. Two hour rides just aren't long enough for this type of racing.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Thanks to Trek for giving us the full suspensions to ride making the course much more rider friendly.

Thank you Katie Compton for the interview!!
