Fairhill Classic XC Interview
EDITOR'S NOTE: When I first posted this interview Katie's last question was "Do you have anything you'd like to add" and she actually said "no." So TO BE FUNNY I thought I would add some smart comments about my appearance that I figured NO ONE would take seriously (but I forgot everyone doesn't know what a nice person Katie is and that she would never insult her interviewer). So I apologize to anyone who read Katie's interview and thought she was rude. I'll have to run my humor through a test group in the future before I upload it onto the site.

MBR.com: Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

Katie: No, I went to bed early (not that early). Got up, had breakfast -the usual.

MBR.com: In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained?

Katie: About 20 to 21. That doesn't change until winter.

MBR.com: Were you strong from start to finish?

Katie: I was stronger in the beginning and the second and third lap. By the forth lap I was just like OK, lets finish this up. You try to keep the same pace. It wasn't too bad I kept the pace pretty good.

MBR.com: You placed 12th OVERALL including men, isn't that right?

Katie: Yes, I got 12th overall. That's good stuff.

MBR.com: When did you put the hammer down?

Katie: In the beginning. I just go and pedal, pedal, pedal - then sit in and keep my spot. That works best for me.

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

Katie: No, none at all.

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual luck?

Katie: No, nothing good.

MBR.com: How do you rate the course?

Katie: It was fun. Fast, plenty of sections that were recovery, had some good downhills and the mega dip - that was great too.

MBR.com: Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Katie: Yeah. I'd say they did a great job putting it on.

MBR.com: What was your prize for First Place?

Katie: $110

MBR.com: If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently?

Katie: I'd fix my 28 cog so I could use it. It skipped the whole time when I was trying to climb. It felt like it was shifting up and then jumping back down. Made things a bit tough. That's the only thing I'd fix.
