Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

No special Altitude preparation. I arrived 2 days before the race.

In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained?

About 20-25 hours

Wasn't it extra hard to win this caliber of an event after not being able to train as hard as you would like earlier in the year due to an injury?

It was hard because I hadn't raced over 1.5 hours this year so I wasn't sure if I could keep a good pace over the last hour. I was probably a lot fresher than the riders that had to travel around Europe. Another thing that made it hard was my descending skills were a little off due to almost three months off the mountain bike. I may have finished second if I didn't have the benefit of the soft tail.

Who did you feel was your toughest competitor?

Definitely Greg Randolf. He seemed to have really good power on the flat and rolling sections.

Were you strong from start to finish?

Yes, I rode fairly steady the whole race even though I had to start from the back of the field.

Thank you Kirk Molday for the interview!

When did you put the hammer down?

When I made contact with the lead group half way through the second lap I took the lead and tried to ride everyone off my wheel.

Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

Nothing

How do you rate the course?

The course was very good for me since the downhill wasn't too technical. Ordinarily I prefer a challenging downhill section but I haven't been able to ride my mountain bike too much because of a knee injury.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Yes, except for the order of the call up to the line. For some reason some people got early call up and others were totally screwed.

If you could do the race again would you do anything differently?

No

When is your next important race?

World Championships

Thank you Kirk Molday for the interview!!
