Did you do anything special to prepare for this race? No, I'm just in really good shape. This is my 26th race of the year so I'm a little bit ahead of everybody else and yesterday was my first mountain bike ride since November. In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained? Probably 22 to 23. Were you strong from start to finish? Yeah, I felt really comfortable today. When did you put the hammer down? Actually, I went hard the first two laps and then I followed the rider who finished second place the remainder of the race and just waited until about a quarter mile to go and I made my final surge. Did you have any unusual problems with the race? No, my bike worked great - I never slid out, never fell. There were a few times when both of us would have a tough time getting past lapped riders but as long as both of us have the problem it's not really a big deal. How do you rate the course? It's the best mountain bike course I've ever ridden. I love coming here. It's my fifth time and I think I've won it 4 times. Were you happy with the way the race was run? Yes, it started about 15 minutes late but who can complain about racing in 60 degrees and sun on really smooth single-track? It's just a great run event. If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently? No, just try to win. Is there anything you would like to add? See you next year! |
