How was your fitness level going into this race?
Each week it seems to be getting better. I didn't ride a lot during the
week so I guess I was rested for this race.
Were you happy with
your position going into the singletrack?
I was third going into the first section of single track. The pace was pretty
strong leading up to this section - I was trying to stay out of the "red" zone.
Were
you strong from start to finish?
Just like the week before at Michaux, I tried to ride steady all race long.
I had enough of a lead that on the last trip up the dirt road, I was glad that
there was no one to contest with because I was feeling pretty flat.
When
did you put the hammer down?
Coming up the dirt road towards the end of the first lap, I pushed hard knowing
I could recover quickly in the single track before the finish line area. I
rode the second lap knowing I was in the lead - kept telling myself to just
ride steady to avoid blowing up!
Did you have any unusual problems?
Once again - knock on wood - I did come awfully close to hugging a tree, but
aside from that, it was problem free.
Were you happy with the way the
race was run?
This is an awesome race, held at an awesome venue. Hats off to everyone involved.
