How was your fitness level going into this race?
Still early season but getting better with each race.
Were you
happy with your position going into the singletrack?
Happy as far as it related to the Vet 1 class but with short interval times
between each class, it was the usual bumper to bumper traffic jam. I just tried
to be patient and not waste energy.
Were you strong from
start to finish?
I'd call it more like steady Eddie. All race long I kept trying to remind myself
to pace.
When did you put the hammer down?
Once I reached the second to last section of rocks I had a good idea where
I was and how far it was to the finish. My legs were just starting to feel
like cramps were around the corner when I reached the last section of rocks.
Luckily that didn't happen and adrenaline pretty much took over at the point
of seeing the end of the rocks and the last dirt road to the finish line.
Did
you have any unusual problems?
Knock on wood! - None.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
I was glad the course was slightly shorter than last year. As always for the
shear numbers of racers that show up for this race, the promoter and his volunteers
do a great job!
Did you have any interesting
experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
In the second to last section of rocks, I caught and passed my teammate who
finished 3rd in Sport Senior2.
