- How was your fitness level going into this race?
Not bad. I was a little rusty having not raced since Escape from Granogue on 5/2. I had to work real hard the entire race to maintain the 30 second lead over Mark Elsasser...he was riding real strong.
- Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack?
Yes. I was first in the woods.
- Were you strong from start to finish?
No. As usual, my legs started cramping half way through the 3rd lap.
- When did you put the hammer down?
I went out hard in the beginning and backed off a little. Mark Elsasser passed me and I was comfortably in 2nd position with John Posner close behind me. I had to stay strong so Mark would not ride away. I pushed real hard again halfway through the first lap to retake the lead.
- Did you have any unusual problems?
No. Just the usual cramping, but I have learned to manage it by slowing my pace or stopping for a quick stretch (I had to stop once on the last lap).
- Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Yes. It was well organized as usual.
- Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges
with competitors/spectators)?
Nothing really interesting. Racers on the course were really friendly and helpful in letting me pass quickly.
- Anything you would like to add?
I always look forward to racing Sewell and this year did not disappoint. It's such a fun course for a single speed.
