How was your fitness level going into this race? Decent, was feeling sick the last few races, but think that was just a problem taking some supplements. Felt pretty strong during the last few training rides. Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack? Yes, was at least 10th (if not further back) when coming off the gravel road, but had a good surge and caught up to Pat for 2nd into the single track. Were you strong from start to finish?: Just consistent, neither a strong starter or finisher, I just tried to stay consistent throughout the race. When did you put the hammer down? Never, see above. I lost my "hammer" years ago. Did you have any unusual problems? None at all. knock on wood, but I have not had any mechanicals at all this year or last. I try to save those for winter riding. Were you happy with the way the race was run? Excellent. Guys did a superb job. Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)? Just on the last lap going down the first knarly hill with the rocks in the middle. I was (thought) I was going at a decent clip down the hill when some guy on a Trek HT passed me (don't know how he found the room) about 1/4 of the way down and he just was flying. I had to ask the spectators how in the Hell he did that. Unfortunately around the corner and up the climb he was standing next to his bike with a broken chain. Anything you would like to add? Thanks to my team for such great support and the enthusiasms they ALL bring to racing and riding. |
