Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
Not really.
Did you do any other races this weekend?
Last week I had one in Illinois....... a World Cup Race...... U23 (Road Race) Ryan DeWald went with me along with Jed Schober and Kyle Wamsley........ I was in a five man team and I got 8th....... it was the best race of the year for me.
Was the water crossing fun?
It was all right....... yeah.....it was cool.
What was your favorite part of the course?
There wasn't really one favorite part ..... it was long with lots of turns......... overall it was a good course...... the end was pretty cool..... nice and tight. If (the end) it was longer and a little bit more open I would have won.
Were you strong from start to finish?
Almost...... I fell in the creek....... that hurt me knee and the pain sort of made me suffer. I just stayed in forth place there for a while and they sort of ran the race........ then I got back in it at the end a little bit.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
Yeah...... there were a couple of endurance riders that we came up on and they were like....... "we're still racing" .....they were just cruising along ......... that was funny. They were a little mad.....we were a little mad...... but it was all right.
When did you put the hammer down?
I didn't really at all except I had to bridge up a couple of times because I'd rest a little bit in the back ........then I'd sort of go fast ...... and if you go too fast today..... you'd come up on a corner and there would be a rock or something so..... it's real risky ...... so you've got to stay real steady rather than put the hammer down but at the end I sprinted pretty hard........ so that was about the hardest point for me.
Did you have any unusual problems?
Not really. Except for not having enough room in the final sprint at the end.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
The course was marked better this year. Last year I had problems going off the course and the year before. This year the course itself was fine. For this race and everything in the future...... they've got to learn to get the pro awards out right away because we do have sponsors and there were over 200 people sitting in here at the start of the hosting of results/awards ...... and if they got us up there that would have been some exposure. That's what we do this for. Other than that it was a good race.
Is there anything you would like to add?
It would be really good for the sport to have the pro awards maybe right after
the race. For the rest of this series maybe it would be possible to do that in
order to get the exposure for the riders while the people are around.
