Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
Not really. I went up close to the race Friday night..... just sort of relaxed and pre-rode the course on Saturday and went fishing a little bit at the lake.
Did you find the rock gardens challenging?
A little bit..... but that's what it's like where I live so..... there was nothing that was too tough for me.
Were the other riders courteous when passed or passing?
Yes. It worked out all right.
What was your favorite part of the course?
On one part..... I'm not sure exactly where it is..... you come out and make a hard right turn... come out in the field on top of this hill.... and you can see the whole of Carbondale. It was a really nice view. The whole course oveall was very good.
Were you strong from start to finish?
Pretty much. I let a couple of guys go out front..... Brandon Ott was attacking..... he's great at the starts. I like how he starts 'cause it sort of pulls everything apart. There was one other guy fighting for it too...... then Ryan and I sort of took over and finished it off from there on.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
Nothing abnormal really..... I said hi to a lot of people.... sort of taking it easy. There wasn't anybody there that was really crushing it. Nothing out of the ordinary......
When did you put the hammer down?
I didn't really put the hammer down at all until the end there. I put the drop on Ryan.... unintentionally..... we were going through lapped riders...... and he was hurting.
Did you have any unusual problems?
Not really. I was trying to carry my hammergel in the side of my shorts and it kept sliding down after I got sweaty. It was sort of funny..... then I ended up not even needing it. I didn't even use any.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Yeah... it was run great. The course itself was awesome. I was there the day before and there were all kinds of people working on it.... great job...... the awards took a little while but..... it's hard to run a bike race..... I know how it is.... so that was no big deal.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Thanks to the people I stayed with..... I had a great time and it was a good weekend. I'm glad there was a race up in the boonies so I could go up there and stay for the weekend....... that's about it......
