Kristine Oesterling

Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

No, but I had steak and ice cream for dinner the night before.

Did you make it up all of the hills?

Yes, had a bobble on each hill once but other than that they were do-able, but killer hard and very painful. The people at the top of Muncles(?) Revenge hill really motivated you to stay on the bike and grind it out.

What was your favorite part of the course?

There was a fleeting moment when you were under some bamboo (right before a steep little hill). I thought that was neat--the bamboo, not the hill.

Were you strong from start to finish?

No definitely not. I had real problems getting my head into the game for the first lap and into the second. The last lap was definitely my fastest, don't know why. Wish I could've ridden as well as I did on that lap for the whole race. It would've definitely helped to pre-ride the course!

Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?

I was starting to get to know the people at the water stations pretty well because I took water from them every single time I passed, just in case. I drank a lot! And there seemed to be a lot of encouraging spectators throughout the course (more than normal). People cheering always helps!

When did you put the hammer down?

I wasn't really able to, but my last lap was faster.

Did you have any unusual problems?

My bike must have been having a bad day because it was really creaking and groaning all through the race, other than that things went well.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Yes, everything seemed to go smoothly. They did a great job.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Thanks!
