What do you do for cross training? (not cyclocross, but off the bike exercise)?

I like to XC ski, lift weights, run, and anything else that will keep me from getting bored.

Do you take time off the bike in the winter?

I take about 3 weeks off where I do not ride and then another 3 weeks where I hardly ride at all.

How do you avoid weight gain in the winter?

Although I do not ride much I spend a lot of time in the weight room and even more on the skis, and I try to watch what I eat....except when I see Christmas Cookies, then it is all over and I put on a good 5 or ten pounds

What month do you plan on coming into fitness for the 2001 season?

Usually during March things come together and I start to really build up fitness.

What month do you start your pre-season training?

I really start in November and the gradually focus more on bike specific training as the season gets closer.

How do you deal with riding in the winter conditions (cold, snow, ice, lack of daylight)?

Wear lots of clothing, ride the trainer when I have to, and try to take advantage of the nice days.

What are your goals for the 2001 season?

Continue to grow as a racer and improve as much as I can.

Is the "pro mountain bike racer" lifestyle as much fun as you thought it would be?

I would not really say that I live the "pro mountain bike racer" lifestyle, if all goes well someday I can find out, and hopefully it will be! Good luck to everyone this year!
