What do you do for cross training? (not cyclocross, but off the bike exercise)?

My coach requires me to do a lot of fun cross training during the winter months, this usually includes rollerblading, swimming, running, and I include wrestling the cows for my son's school 4-H project cross training.

Do you take time off the bike in the winter?

After breaking my knee in September and getting hit by a car in late October, I decided it was time to take a little time off and took almost the entire month of November off.

How do you avoid weight gain in the winter?

I don't, especially with all the weight training, it seems inevitable that I'm going to gain weight.

What month do you plan on coming into fitness for the 2001 season?

Around May or June

What month do you start your pre-season training?

December and January I started base training this year.

How do you deal with riding in the winter conditions (cold, snow, ice, lack of daylight)?

I don't deal well with these conditions that's why I live in Florida.

What are your goals for the 2001 season?

Number 1 - continue having fun and enjoying moutainbiking. Compete at all of the Norba Nationals, Win the Masters World Mountain Bike Title, and expand into Road Racing.

Is the "pro mountain bike racer" lifestyle as much fun as you thought it would be?

My Family and Children always come first in my life, and Thank-God they are very supportive of my lifestyle. Also the Mountain bike community supports the family so I can definitely say it is by far as much fun as I thought it would be.
