I arrived on Wednesday and had good time to settle in. The altitude was no problem. I pre-rode the course Thursday and Friday to get a good feel for the trail. 2. Did you do anything special to prepare for this race? To prepare for this race I increased my training a lot with weeks at 250- to 400 miles. I also tried to work on my climbing. Also tried eating new foods during training like pasta sandwiches to see what worked best. 3. Course conditions went from extremely dry and dusty to torrential downpours and 35mph winds. Did you expect this at all and how did you keep warm with the huge temperature drop? I didn't expect it to get so cold or rain. To keep warm I wore bibs, knee warmers, long sleeve jersey, short sleeve jersey, arm warmers and rain cape, insulated gloves. |

4. Did you have a support crew? I had my mom and friend there for my support crew. They were always on top of things for me. 5. How would you rate the course as far as technical difficulty - and were the technical sections any more difficult with the extreme rain? The course was a little more technical than I was used to but I don't think the rain changed it much. 6. Which lap did you consider was the most difficult? My last lap (14) was most difficult. 7. To withstand such adverse conditions and persevere achieving the 24HR WORLD SOLO CHAMIPIONSHIP TITLE - what kept you going? I think what kept me going was the fact that I knew I could win and the feeling I would get pulling on that winners jersey and knowing what I had just accomplished. 8. How did your bike holdup for such a long race and did you ride the same one throughout the whole race? My Dean bike held up great. I had no flat tires, or any mechanicals at all. I rode the same bike the whole race. 9. What do you consider to be the most important attribute for a 24 Hour Solo racer? I think the most important attribute for a 24 hr racer is mental toughness to keep pushing through it and completing the race. 10. If you could do the race again, would you do anything differently? If I did the race again I wouldn't sleep (2hrs) and take shorter breaks. |
