Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?: I just kept riding throughout the fall.
Did you achieve your goals for this race?: More than I expected. I was hoping for a top 5 placing
Were you strong from start to finish?: Yes. I felt stronger than I thought I would.
When did you put the hammer down?: In the cambered single track and on the climb on the last lap.
Did you have any unusual problems?: I bonked on the 3rd lap but once I ate a GU, all was good.
Did the cold weather affect you during the race?: No, it helped.
How would you rate the course?: A roadies delight. Super fast and if you know how to bank turns, even faster. Lack of climbing makes it a power riders dream. I'm 6'1" 192lbs. I was in heaven!
Were you happy with the way the race was run?: Absolutely. The organization has always been top notch. This was my sixth year.
If you could do the race again - would you do anything differently?: Yes, I would have attacked more.
It's the end of a long season, how did you maintain your fitness?: I always ride. It helps me reduce stress. So I keep my fitness level up all the time. Also, I rode and raced a lot on the road this year and that carried over.
Is there anything you would like to add?: I finished nearly dead last in this class last year. It is a nice balance to come back and win this year. Also, my race long break partner was great. Very helpful with pacing.
