Josie Shew
First into the single-track

Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

I did get 10 hours of sleep the previous night- I think that helped.

Did you achieve your goals for this race?

Yes!

Were you strong from start to finish?

I lost a little focus on the second lap- but on the third lap, I was strong.

Did you have any problems trying to get to the single-track first?

No problems getting ahead of the women. The hundreds of Sport men who started ahead of us were a problem.

Were the riders courteous while passing in the single-track?

Yes. The first lap was a little crazy, but on the 2nd & third laps everyone was very nice. One guy even offered me a Gu after we had passed each other several times!

What was your favorite part of the course?

The longest climb.

When did you put the hammer down?

At the end of the second lap in the field near the finish line.

Did you have any unusual problems?

No.

How would you rate the course?

Pretty good. With this many people, we needed more places to pass.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

You have to give them credit since this series has gotten so big and there were 500+ racers. However, waiting around 'til 6pm for awards wasn't much fun.

Is there anything you would like to add?

The 5 lb. chocolate bar is cool!
