Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
Rode the course a couple of times- that definitely helps!
Did you make it up all of the hills?
All except the one with the water bars. But I made it past the first bar-- which I've never done before! I was pleased with my climbing.
What was your favorite part of the course?
The downhill before the broken-down bridge. I knew I was almost done and I was passing lots of sport men. I was so pumped up with adrenaline, that I had to tell myself to slow down before I killed myself.
Were you strong from start to finish?
I felt a little weak at the beginning (I had trouble eating enough for breakfast), but after eating a Gu, I felt better.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
I had lots of fun. When I caught Alan Streifthau (one of our juniors), I encouraged him and we rode back and forth for a bit. And when I passed Randy, Peter and other sport men, they always have interesting things to say :)
When did you put the hammer down?
Within the first few miles. My teammate Nicole was first into the woods and was doing a great job, so there was no reason to pass. But soon as we hit the first hills, it was me, Lisa Vible and Nicole Kowal-- and we were hauling! When we hit the first climb after the creek, I started really pushing hard.
Did you have any unusual problems?
No.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Trailspinners did a fantastic job setting up & running the race. Next year, I'm sure they'll get scoring figured out, too.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Thanks to all my great teammates for the support and motivation. And thanks to our sponsors- Christiana Care, Henry's Bike Shop, Smartfuel, Bodywork Unlimited and Rudy Project.
