Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
I just focused on not over training the week before and crossed my fingers I wouldn't have mechanical problems like at Hibernia. (mountainbikeRACER.com Mid-Atlantic Super Series Race #1)
Did you achieve your goals for this race?
Yes
Were you strong from start to finish?
No. I really struggled the first 5-7 miles trying to catch the rest of the field then I paced myself for a while. I got my second wind on the 3 mile trail and started to pass people.
Did you change your race strategy after encountering the more difficult course this year?
Yes. After the start I just wanted to focus on surviving.
What was your favorite part of the course?
Grave Ridge and the 3 Mile Trail.
When did you put the hammer down?
After the long fire road climb. (Dead Woman's Hollow)
Due to the heat and difficult course did you have any problems with cramping or dehydrating?
Yes. I really didn't cramp much but I was really beginning to dehydrate.
Did you have any unusual problems?
Other than my whole body hurting. No.
How would you rate the course?
9.9, I loved the course but the staging was the worst ever.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
I thought it was a little disorganized at registration. The staging was terrible, but nothing that can't be fixed.
Is there anything you would like to add?
Maybe some more logs and technical downhills.
