Ken Stadden

Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

Got down from 142 to 136 pounds... Did lots of indoor training. Put a new fork on the old Jamis-- my friend Denny had a like-new 1998 Judy, and what a difference it made!

Did you achieve your goals for this race?

Well, almost. The goals were to have no flats and finish first. I had one flat and finished second.

Were you strong from start to finish?

Felt pretty good, even though the mud tried to suck the life from me for two hours.

Don Morrison and Wissahickon Cyclery did a great job putting together this race and we thank them for their efforts. Was there anything that you observed that could be done better as the series progresses?

I agree, a superb job in many ways. This Web site is one of the best things about the race. One minor thing... we had to wait too many hours after the race for the awards.

When did you put the hammer down?

After my flat, four miles into the race.

If you ran into these exact trail conditions again, would you do anything differently?

Narrower tires seemed to work for my fellow racer Andrew-- didn't have the clogging problems.

Did you have any unusual problems?

The gooey mud did the same thing to my bike as to most everyone's... shifting became problematic.

How would you rate the course?

A great course... would have been fun and fast in the dry.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Yes... just that there results delay thingie...

If you could do the race again - would you do anything differently?

Put a thicker tube in my back tire. Practice changing a tube to get the time down. Ride a Honda 250, maybe.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Great job, Don and everyone associated with the race! Thank you for all the hard work.
