Name: John Fuchs Team: Wissahickon Category/Class: Beginner Master II 50+ Place: 2nd Email: drmmr9@aol.com What was your favorite Super Series race for 2001 and why? I won for the first time at Iron Hill, the 7th race of the season. That was the best! Pretend you are coaching your closest competitor........ what would you tell them to do differently in 2002 in order to beat you? If Ken Fretz would spend half as much time biking as he does preparing for marathons, he would whip me every time. One night before a race he was pouring concrete at his house until 1AM. I would also recommend that he cease this sort of activity prior to race day. |

What is it about mtb racing (BESIDES WINNING) that is MOST fun for you? The people. I came to mountainbike racing for fun and exercise but it was the people who made the experience quite extraordinary. What month do you plan on coming into fitness for the 2002 season? I don't know, hopefully around April. What month do you start your pre-season training? When winter is winding up next March I will probably get back to biking again. How do you deal with riding in the winter conditions (cold, snow, ice, lack of daylight)? I don't like to ride when it's cold. What are your goals for the 2002 season? I will move up to the next level, Sport Class. Initially I plan to just hang in and try to complete the longer distances. I want to learn how to negotiate the courses more efficiently and more skillfully. I want to prepare myself and my bike better. I expect to learn a ton. If there was just ONE thing that you would like to see improved for next year (2002) - what would it be? I would like to see scoring produce results quicker and be more consistent from one race to the next. I say that having not had any major problems with the scoring all year (with the exception of Fair Hill). But, it is the ONE area that I think of as having room for improvement. Aside from that, the series was TOTALLY FANTASTIC. The courses were excellent and the organizers, promoters, course workers, and officials were all very competent, courteous, helpful, and friendly. See you next year!
