Team: Wooden Wheels Racing Family - Marc Vettori Email: die@udel.edu Did the team competition make the Super Series more fun for your individual members? Historically we have been sending riders to most of these races. We would have 10 riders at one race then maybe another 10 somewhere else the next week, with the Super Series we were rolling with a core group of 18-20 to each race. We rolled with a similar core group in winning the MAC cup in 2000 and 2001. So basically, yeah it is more fun rolling with 18-20 of your friends to a race, versus 10-12 of your friends. Which race was the best race for your team? We were fortunate enough to win 4 of the 10 races, Fair Hill, Granogue, Iron Hill and White Haven. So those were probably our best races. We finished second in all the other races except for Hibernia. So I guess that says we have a group of folks that can handle a diverse set of terrains. Looking back on 2001, is there anything that you would change in team strategy for 2002? |

I don't think that you can really have a lot of strategy with the current rules system. I think it is a really fair way to score the teams, each team has their 10 best score, plus a point for all other riders. Focusing on winning the MAC cup in 2000 may have hurt us, as many of our riders got slow starts at Hibernia and Hershey. I was really pleased with our 2001 line up, and I am also very excited with how our 2002 team looks. With more than 200 teams competing in the 2001 Super Series...... it was surprising to see the top teams so close going into the last race......... do you expect the same thing to happen in 2002? If the rules stay the same, I believe so. Guy's, Wissahickon, FSVS, Team Harrisburg, all of these teams have been the top teams in the area for years. Each team has so many tough riders. So many good people. Additionally, each of the top 5 teams also promoted a race in the series. That speaks to the commitment of these teams to the sport, and shows their passion for succeeding in racing and helping to foster the growth of racing in our region. Has team morale been affected at all by the Super Series? On the whole, I would have to say yes. We have always taken a lot of
pride in our program and Can you think of any helpful suggestions to the promoters that would make the team competition better? The only thing might be to count only the top 10 scoring riders from each team. This way smaller teams, could better compete head to head with the larger teams. It would be cool to award team award per race. So the top 3 teams at each race get a trophy or something. They could pick them up at the next race. That would be cool.
