Joey Thompson

Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

I made sure I was very well hydrated and I made sure my bike was in good working order as this course is very demanding on a bike.

Did you achieve your goals for this race?

Yes, I finished first which is always a goal.

Were you strong from start to finish?

I felt better on some parts of the course than others but overall I was strong the whole time.

When did you put the hammer down?

I was working hard the whole time but with about 2.5 miles to go I was riding with the second place JR and I dropped him on the fireroad where it turned into singletrack.

If you ran into these exact trail conditions again, would you do anything differently?

Bring a dual suspension but since I don't have one.......no.

Did you have any unusual problems?

No, I didn't have any problems.

How would you rate the course?

It was a very challenging course, I don't really like to climb but the technical stuff was really fun.

Did you change your race strategy after encountering the more difficult course this year?

Not really while I was out in California I did some rides with pretty much climbing but that's just because there wasn't much else in the one park close by.

What was your favorite part of the course?

Either the rocky technical ride up top or the long rocky fireroad downhill.

Due to the heat and difficult course did you have any problems with cramping or dehydrating?

No I was well hydrated.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

The start was really disorganized, I didn't even know the race had started and the first singletrack was so crowded I had to walk/run most of it.

If you could do the race again - would you do anything differently?

No

Is there anything you would like to add?

I think the website is looking great.
