Joe Tierney - 1st Place

Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?

Just one hard road ride during the week - then several easier ones.

Did you make it up all of the hills?

Every one of them - I love hills.

What was your favorite part of the course?

Deputy Woods & the last grass hill climb where every one was standing. It was fun to ride up that while most were walking - I wasn't going much faster - the challenge was fun.

Were you strong from start to finish?

I had a good start entering the singletrack in 4th. I felt good the whole race.

Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?

No

When did you put the hammer down?

At the base of the first hill climb on the back side of the course after the last log . I saw that I was pretty strong in this section so I felt it would be a good place to break away & do some damage.

Did you have any unusual problems?

Just some minor chain suck on the last lap. Unfortunately David Clark had his chain break. I was right behind him ready to attack on the last set of hills. David jumped the last log & his chain snapped. It is part of the sport, but I don't like to win races this way.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

It was an excellent race. The separate races for sport beg. & expert kept the course open & not crowded.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Thanks to the promoters, Bill Deputy & Don Morrison for a great series. Mtn. biking is alive in the East & it is great to see. Editor's note: I'm the Title SPONSOR - Don Morrison is the promoter of the SERIES (he was kind enough to let me name the series as long as it had mid-Atlantic in there and also let me help out a little with some things)
