Did you do anything special (apart from the whole training lifestyle) to prepare for this race?
Did several pre-rides of course sections the week before. Put on my lighter/faster tires.
Was the water crossing fun?
Awesome!! Loved the pink flamingoes. It cooled me off nicely. I was real tempted to swim around a bit.
What was your favorite part of the course?
I like the variety. Nice singletrack, Todd threw in some nice hills this year. All the sweet trails except drunken sailor in there.
Were you strong from start to finish?
Yes, I was having some trouble at the very beginning since my teammate Nicole was setting a fast pace. But the 3 of us, Nicole, Josie & I paced at the front in the beginning. That was cool. We all managed to finish in the front.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
I had fun riding thru the race w/ Leanne, of Alan's. She's a great rider. She'd pass me on a hill, then I'd catch back up. I just got lucky that she's recuperating from an injury. I gotta say it was pretty cool at the 3rd? water stop to have all the spectators cheering after coming down that technical, rooty downhill.
When did you put the hammer down?
The hammer rarely came up.
Did you have any unusual problems?
Yeah, trying to get around some of the sport guys in the tight singletrack. And trying to sidestep a couple racers caught in crashes.
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
YES!!! THE DELAWARE TRAILSPINNERS ARE AWESOME PEOPLE!!!!!! They ran a fantastic race. They have so many people that volunteer to do this race & its great every year. This year was the largest, I think. Yes, the scorekeepers they hired had problems. No debate. But I want to apologize on behalf of responsible, decent racers for the embarrassing display of a handful of angry racers over the scoring mistakes. It'll get sorted out as best as it can. There will be errors I'm sure. But you know what? Shit Happens, get over it. We are all doing this for fun. I felt bad that a few people that had been drinking waiting for results turned into belligerent, idiots. So again, my apologies to all the Trailspinners and to the Fair Hill Park Rangers. 98%of MTB racers don't behave like idiots. We know you all worked hard and can't wait for next year's race. This is the best race around, THANKS TRAILSPINNERS!!!
Is there anything you would like to add?
Parents out there, either bringing kids into the sport or with kids in it now. Please teach your kids by YOUR example that competition has its problems. If there are errors its pretty silly to see a parent yelling at volunteers because she is upset that her kid may lose out on a tee shirt if the scoring is messed up. Ohhh gosh, a tee shirt. Life isn't always fair & perfect. It was pretty sad seeing one parent yelling about just that yesterday. I can't wait for Granogue!!
