Did you do everything you could to prepare for today's race?
No, I hadn't been on my mtb in 2 weeks. Been waiting for parts to get my fork & brakes repaired.
Did you have any problems getting into the singletrack?
No
How did you like the long climbs?
Love to climb.
Were you strong from start to finish?
No
Were you happy with the way the race was run?
Sure except for lack of port-o-poties. They could have marked things a little better on the course.
When did you put the hammer down?
A little in the beginning & not again 'til the very end sprints along the fire road.
Did you have any unusual problems?
Yeah, my fork died.
Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?
I enjoyed racing w/ Lyn Shaffer throughout the race. She pushed me along. At the end she came around on that descent that takes you back to the finish. Then, I came around her at the fire road. She probably thinks I'm even more of a nut. I was yelling at Lyn, 'put it in the big ring & let's go'. And when she didn't catch up, I saw her husband Craig & told him 'go yell at Lyn to get up here'! I just wanted to push her back so she'd take the win if she could. Let's face it the best part of racing ain't the prizes. Its the other athletes pushing us to do better. Lyn, thanks for pushing me on this one!
Do you enjoy point to point races more than lap races?
Its nice to mix up & have both types. Its harder to run a point to point more than a lap race.
