How was your fitness level going into this race?

Excellent. I'm really a 'roadie' and have logged mega miles this year (almost 6300 miles so far). In fact, I had done a 73-mile road ride the day before so I knew the endurance part wouldn't be a problem. However, I lack mtn bike skills. I've only ridden off-road a couple of times after a 4-5 year layoff. Lucky for me the course was not technical.

Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack?

Yes. Last as usual.

Were you strong from start to finish?

Yes. Could have ridden more miles.

When did you put the hammer down?

No hammer. I felt I rode steady and fairly consistent given the deteriorating conditions.

Did you have any unusual problems?

Aside from the usual mud-clogged bike, my fifth lap was frustrating because I had to contend with some of the expert classes passing me. I felt obligated to pull off the trail and get out of their way, so I lost a lot of time.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Absolutely! I look forward to next year!

Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?

Between Wooden Wheels and FSVS, I had quite the cheering squad. It was a real boost to pass the start/finish line and hear everyone yelling my name.
