Lauri Webber

How was your fitness level going into this race?

I was feeling good but a little tired going into the race.

Were you happy with your position going into the singletrack?

Yes, I was about 4th going into the singletrack.

Were you strong from start to finish?

No not at all. I started to cramp just after the start of the third lap and the cramping got worse with each climb no matter how small!

When did you put the hammer down?

I'd say about midway through the second lap.

Did you have any unusual problems?

Other than the cramping not really.

Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Well of course but I am biased. I want to thank our race director Craig Schaffer. He worked tirelessly all spring and summer to get this course ready to race! The water stops and the hoses were life savers!

Did you have any interesting experiences during your race (exchanges with competitors/spectators)?

Well yes there was this crazy group of guys at the first road crossing. I think they were called the Funk 'N Field Trio. One was named Danny and I think that one of the guys was named Nick and rumor has it that he is the race director's son! They were dancing and singing up a storm on every lap!

Anything you would like to add?

Yes. I want to thank my husband Brian for all his support. He puts up with a lot so that I can race all season. Today he was getting my bike ready for me and he was completely drenched in sweat by the time he had one tire on the bike! The highlight of my day though was when my 4yr old Megan won the training wheel division. She came huffing and puffing up the hill and when she arrived at the finish she promptly said "mommy I wasn't even working hard". We are sharing my Medal today. I also want to thank my son Jeffrey who spent the entire day at the race and helped out and didn't get into too much trouble. As always I want to thank my team Wooden Wheels Racing for all their support not only today but everyday!
