In from World Cups - Out to Big Bear!

Ferg,

Bottom line is I gave it my best shot and it wasn't quite enough. I had a decent race,
the best I could have had on the day, but didn't feel very strong. The day after the race,
I awoke full of a cold, so that was most likely affecting me in the race. I had probably
my best start of a world cup, and was around 56th after the first lap. Then, each lap,
I would loose 4 or 5 places on the major climb, and get 2 or 3 of them back on the back
half of the course. Lap times were quick, 17 to 18 mins for the leaders, so the dreaded 80%
rule was in major enforcement. It got me after 5 of 7 laps.

It is a bit disappointing, because I felt like I could have had a really solid result on that course
with the decent start that I had, if only I was feeling "on". So the qualification chase is over,
and I finished 12 points off the selection cut. 12 points is 12 places, and that was only about
2 minutes on Sunday!

Nevertheless, the criteria was fair, and the guys that won the spots deserve them. The trip to
Europe was a fantastic experience. Made some new friends, and strengthened some existing
relationships. Now I have one day at home before flying out to Big Bear on Wednesday for
the racing on Friday and Saturday.

Later,

Chris.
