MBR.com: Are you happy with your number three finish?

Lyn: Yeah.

MBR.com: In the last two months how many hours a week have you trained?

Lyn: Between 6 and 7.

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual problems with the race?

Lyn: As far as the course goes, no. Had a little trouble shifting down into my granny gear twice, had a little chain suck but nothing terrible. I had to fire my mechanic (Craig Shaffer).

MBR.com: Did you have any unusual luck?

Lyn: Kind of early on it was kinda neat because Sue Heckler is a girl that I raced against last year a lot and twice she just beat me. Once at Iron Hill and another time at Big Timber. So she was racing that day and I passed her, then she passed me and got a couple of people ahead of me and I caught up to her and it was at that little double creek crossing with the little hills that you go up just before you get to the house ruins there before you get on to the car path over there by Appleton parking lot. I was right behind her on the first little hill and the second hill she didn't shift right or something and bogged and I passed her on that hill and that was the end of that. She ended up finishing seventh so that was like a personal victory for me.That was kinda neat. So that was a little bit of luck, but you know for the most part the weather was good and I was feeling good and the bike was pretty much running great and the course was fast and it was one of those rare occasions where everything fell into place and there you have it.

MBR.com: Were you strong from start to finish?

Lyn: Yeah, yeah actually I was. Felt pretty good in the beginning and actually tried to pass a guy just coming up the road to the finish and had that flat tire, but I felt really good up to the very end, felt really good.

MBR.com: Did you do anything special to prepare for this race?

Lyn: No not really. Actually, the week before the race I had to go out to Pittsburgh which I thought would set me back a little bit but the boss let me take the bike out and I found some really cool trails out there. There were a lot of hills, so I worked on hills beforehand. Instead of doing hard intense rides I did a lot of longer kind of low heart rate rides.

MBR.com: How do you rate the course?

Lyn: I really liked it. Really liked it. I didn't have any problem with any of it. I thought it was great, a lot of fun, fast, plenty of places to pass people, some hilly spots and nice winding singletrack, it was fun.

MBR.com: Were you happy with the way the race was run?

Lyn: Yeah. Definitely. I thought it was organized real well. I thought the trails were marked real well. I heard a couple of the experts got off course, but I thought it was marked very well.

MBR.com: What was your prize for First Place?

Lyn: I got a little goodie bag of lubes and patch kits and a tube.

MBR.com: If conditions are the same, could you go faster next year?

Lyn: Yeah.

MBR.com: Anything you would like to add?

Lyn:: After getting the road bike I think road miles have made a major improvement on the off-road performance and as far as fitness and training and everything I think the road bike has made a big difference. Also I would like to thank my coach - my husband Craig.
