It certainly isn't a well known fact that London Grove Township is home to some of the top junior cyclists in the United States, but the second best cyclo-cross racer does live in London Grove. So does the seventh best mountain biker. And the third best road racer.
What makes this truly amazing is the fact these three racing feats were accomplished by one person - 16-year-old Justin Thompson.
The highlight of Thompson's brief but already impressive cycling career occurred Dec. 12 in San Francisco when he captured the seven city Super Cup Series championship which included races in Boston, New York, Boulder, Colo., Chicago, Seattle and Portland, Ore. Thompson also took second place in the cyclo-cross junior National Championships that same San Franciscan weekend.
The only person to beat Thompson was Matt Kelly, last year's world champion.
Thompson's stellar performance earned him one of only five available spots on the United States junior national cyclo-cross team. He will represent the U.S. in two weeks at the world championships in the Netherlands.
